I tend to be a skeptical person, but when you hear people’s stories it makes you stop and think. A young man named Junior was a child soldier. He was captured and forced to cook for the rebels. He was with a group that actually destroyed the ABC University campus. He eventually won the trust of the rebels and one day they sent him to the market to buy supplies and he escaped. Last year, he made his way back to Yekepa where he was one of the workers to help in the rebuilding of the campus. Often things do come full circle.
Last year he moved closer to his parents. Junior has been doing well. At 21 years of age, he has gone back to school and is in the 7th grade. He earned enough to be able to buy a motor bike. Some of the men in town did not like the fact that he was improving his life, so they cast a juju spell (witchcraft) on him.
After the spell, he was walking down the road with a group of people and a green mamba came out of the grass and headed straight for him, bit him, yet, didn’t touch any of the rest of the group. This is unusual b/c a snake usually will try to flee unless cornered. The day this happened four people had come to him telling him that they had had dreams that he would be bit by a snake and he should be careful. A few days later the same four people came to him and told him that they had again had a dream and in the dream the group that had place juju on him were going to kill him.
He came to visit ABC today and he wants to stay in the area and work again at ABC b/c he is afraid for his life if he goes home.
I know this all sounds very strange, but Africans are not surprised by this story. One of the gentlemen from the US who is here working on the chapel travels all over Africa. He told me a story about a man in a village who had a juju spell cast on him because he chose to be a Christian. The people that cast it told the man that he would have stones in his stomach. Within a few days, the man started having bad stomach pains. He had to be rushed to a hospital where they operated and removed stones out of his stomach. Interesting!
